This exhibition gives us a complete portrait of KOGA Harue (1885-1933), a Nika-Kai artist born in Kurume, Fukuoka who was active in the Taisho and early Showa eras. He eagerly incorporated new current in European art into his work, interacting with friends in the worlds of literature and poetry to create a wealth of new styles. He also experimented with poetry himself. This exhibition focuses on the evolution in his style, and his poetry, over a period of about two decades, revealing new facts. Includes about 55 oils, 50 watercolors and sketches, and 20 other materials. |

In addition to works of art, this exhibition also includes episodes and displays various materials related to the artist and the piece, helping you understand the art from diverse perspectives: the title, the person who modeled for it, the content and significance of the motifs, what the artist felt or thought about the work… everything from famous incidents to almost unknown secrets. Consisting primarily of works drawn from the Ishibashi Collection, with a few selected pieces from other collections, the exhibition is scheduled to include about 130 pieces of Western-style painting, calligraphy and crafts in both the Main Building and the Asian Gallery. |
